Your leads and your machines plug in identically across the range. The iGen7500PRO and iGen10000PRO also carry a 32 amp socket, and both come with a 32 to 15 amp adaptor in the box, which turns it into a second standard 15 amp outlet. Almost nobody in a detailing van has any reason to use the 32 amp socket directly, and you never need to buy a special lead.

So the outlets are not the thing that separates these three generators. Capacity is.

Why a bigger generator runs two machines and a smaller one does not

In Australia a machine is either a 10 amp or a 15 amp machine. There is nothing in between. So a 15 amp Kranzle running alongside a 10 amp compressor needs 25 amps of supply, which is the iGen7500PRO's entire rating with nothing left over.

Running current is not what decides it. Starting current is. Pressure washers and compressors use induction motors, and an induction motor pulls a large surge for the moment it starts, several times its running current. A total stop pressure washer restarts every single time you pull the trigger. A compressor cuts in on its own pressure switch whenever tank pressure drops, without asking you first. So those surges are not a one off at the start of the day, they happen constantly, and each one lands on a generator that is already carrying the other machine.

Model

Continuous output

Left over with a 15 A and a 10 A machine

What we rate it for

iGen4750PRO

3,800 W / 15.8 A

Will not carry 25 A at all

One machine at a time

iGen7500PRO

6,000 W / 25 A

Nothing. 25 A is its full rating

One machine at a time, with large reserve

iGen10000PRO

8,200 W / 34.2 A

9.2 A, enough to absorb a motor starting

Compressor and pressure washer together

That spare capacity on the iGen10000PRO is the whole argument. It also gives you a second 15 amp outlet, using the 32 to 15 amp adaptor supplied in the box, and a 15 litre tank. Like the iGen4750PRO, we rate it for one machine at a time. A 15 amp Kranzle plus a 10 amp compressor needs 25 amps of supply, which is this generator's entire rating with nothing left over. Two 10 amp machines is 20 amps, which leaves five. Neither is enough.

Pressure washers and compressors use induction motors, and an induction motor draws a large surge for the moment it starts. The accepted rule is to allow two and a half times the motor's rating to get it turning, or three times for a compressor that starts against tank pressure. A total stop pressure washer restarts every single time you pull the trigger, and a compressor cuts in and out on its pressure switch without asking you first. When one of those kicks in on top of the other already running, the surge lands on a generator that is already loaded. That is where units trip.

So we rate this generator for one machine at a time, the same as the iGen4750PRO. A 15 amp Kranzle plus a 10 amp compressor needs 25 amps of supply. That is the iGen7500PRO's entire rating, and only three quarters of this one.

Induction motors draw a large surge for the moment they start. The accepted sizing rule is two and a half times the motor's rating, or three times for a compressor that starts against tank pressure. A total stop pressure washer restarts every single time you pull the trigger, and a compressor cuts in on its own pressure switch whenever tank pressure drops. So the surge is not a one off at the start of the day, it is happening constantly, and it lands on a generator that is already carrying the other machine.

That is what the extra capacity is for. With a 15 amp and a 10 amp machine connected, this generator still has 9.2 amps in hand, and with two 10 amp machines it has 14.2. A motor starting on top of the other one running is absorbed rather than tripping the unit. On the two smaller models the same pair leaves nothing, which is why we rate those for one machine at a time.

Who this model suits

Ideal for

Running an air compressor and a pressure washer at the same time

Fully fitted detailing vans and trailers with a permanent generator position

Two person crews working a car at the same time

Fleet, dealership and event work with long days between refuels

Operators who want capacity in reserve rather than a unit at its limit

Not the right choice if

The generator has to come in and out of the vehicle each job

You run one machine at a time and always will

Payload in your vehicle is already tight

The budget will not stretch and one machine covers your work

What it will run

Australian machines are either 10 amp or 15 amp.
