Paint Preparation
Thoroughly clean vehicle surface using FEYNLAB® PURE WASH. Follow with a topical decontamination clay treatment using FEYNLAB® PRIME. If necessary, use a ferrous iron removal product to remove all embedded iron deposits.
After polishing paint to the desired level, remove all polish oils using FEYNLAB® PANEL PREP to ensure optimal bonding and durability of the coating. After completing Panel Prep on all surfaces, wait a minimum of 10 min after using panel prep before coating application.
INSPIRED BY NATURE
In nature, you may have heard of the Lotus Effect. The lotus effect refers to self-cleaning properties that are a result of ultra-hydrophobicity as exhibited by the leaves of Nelumbo, the lotus flower. Dirt particles are picked up by water droplets due to the micro and nanoscopic architecture on the surface, which minimizes the droplet’s adhesion to that surface. Sound familiar?
Feynlab was inspired by this amazing show put on by nature and used this inspiration to recreate these properties in a nano ceramic coating that can produce similar hydrophobics on most any surface it is applied to.
When applied to the paint of a vehicle, these hydrophobics perform just as they do in nature, with the water beads encapsulating dirt, helping to remove it as it rolls off the surface. This, in turn, keeps that surface cleaner for longer, with its “self-cleaning” effect, and makes maintenance easier.
HYDROPHOBIC
The Original Ceramic by Feynlab has one of the highest water contact angles in the industry, making it super-hydrophobic, which helps to protect your car from the contaminants commonly found in water. This property provides your car paint with a permanent layer of protection by forming a chemical bond with it, which causes it to repel not only water, but other elements such as oils, fallout, dirt, mud, road grime, and other build-ups from daily use of the vehicle. This makes your car surface much easier to clean and maintain, as these elements are not able to bond to the surface through the coating. You also get that super cool water beading effect, which is a plus!
SELF CLEANING
If washing your vehicle every time it gets nasty dirt and grime sticking to the surface hurts your arms and wears you out, then THE ORIGINAL CERAMIC is a product that will help you out! It will save you time, arm and back pain, AND money! This DIY ceramic coating has such a high-water contact angle that spraying the surface with water will cause the dirt to be encapsulated and rolled off the surface! (If maintained properly and as instructed) Did we mention the satisfaction you get from watching the dirt just roll off the paint?
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
- Properly Prep vehicle by washing with Feynlab Pure Wash or Feynlab Pure Rinseless
- Clay and Paint Correct surface if necessary
- When vehicle is ready to coat, make sure it is located in a well-lit, well-ventilated area that is between 50°F – 85°F (10°C – 30°C).
- BEFORE COATING – Shake the bottle VIGOROUSLY for one minute. Then, apply enough THE ORIGINAL CERAMIC to a microfiber sponge applicator to fully cover a single panel such as a door or half a hood.
- Begin by making a “+” (plus) sign in the middle of the panel and follow that with a picture frame around the area you are coating. Next, fill in the remaining panel in straight lines from left to right and then cross-hatch up and down, making sure to create a level layer with even coverage.
- Allow the coating to sit on the panel until about 75% dry, or until you see “rainbows”, similar to an oil sheen on water. This is a good indicator you are ready to move on to the next step.
- Once you are ready to move to the next step, use a clean microfiber towel (edgeless is recommended) and remove the remaining 25% of the unevaporated coating. Use a second clean microfiber towel to wipe clear if needed. You will begin to feel the towel glide easier and easier across the surface as the product is completely removed.
- Repeat the above process panel by panel (or multiple panels if your conditions allow) until the entire vehicle is coated.
- One layer of THE ORIGINAL CERAMIC is sufficient to achieve the one-year warranty, but additional layers may be applied to areas where additional protection is desired, such as leading edges, hoods, etc. Wait at least one hour between layers, but no more than 3 hours.
Recommended Maximum Area of Application:
ENTIRE vehicle, then wipe off in same pattern as application.
Note:If using on black textured plastics, perform a simple wipe after 1-2 min to ensure even application and wipe clear if you see any residue or uneven areas.
Final Inspection
Be sure to carefully inspect all finished panels for any leftover coating residue (high spots) during the final wipe. Commonly edges, emblems, and other tight areas may contain some remaining residue. High spots are much easier to remove if caught within a 20-40 min window after the final wipe, than later when the coating has setup.
Layering
Although one layer is sufficient to achieve the one-year durability on clear-coated painted surfaces, another coat may be applied to any area to gain additional thickness (such as the hood or front bumper).
To layer, wait 1-3 hours before applying a second layer. DO NOT wait longer than 3 hours after first layer or cloudiness will result.
Infrared Curing (Optional)
Bake each panel with an IR lamp to reach a surface temperature of 60°C (140°F) for 15min at a distance of ~ 30-36″ from the panel.
Post Application Instructions
- Avoid any incidental water exposure for 24 hours. If it occurs, gently wipe water off the surface.
- Avoid all chemicals including car washes for 7 days.
- If the vehicle must be released in wet conditions before 24hrs after the final coating, then apply FEYNLAB® DETAILER after 1-2 hours of curing time.
- Wash & Maintain Paint Regularly using FEYNLAB® PURE WASH or FEYNLAB® PURE RINSELESS.
Climate Notes
All FEYNLAB® Coatings are subject to different dwell and curing time windows due to humidity and temperature conditions. In General, the higher the humidity level the quicker the coating will cure. If humidity level approaches 75% or higher then consider lessening the recommended dwell and wipe times for the coating.
Additionally moving air will decrease coating dwell times for areas it contacts. Therefore, it is recommended to stop all moving air as much as possible during coating applications to ensure consistency for all portions of the vehicle.
Coatings are best applied in temperature-controlled environments of 10°C-30°C (50°F-85°F), with humidity as low as possible.
