Genuine Coxreels 3/8 inch NPT Nitrile seals 90 degree full flow Made in the USA

Which one do you need

Go by the colour of your reel. It takes two seconds and it is the only thing you need to get right.

Blue reel

Choose 433 brass

  • CNC machined solid brass
  • Rated to 3,000 PSI
  • Nitrile seals, 3/8 inch NPT
  • Previously supplied as part 1935
  • Select Brass Swivel 3/8 Inch above
Higher rated

Black reel

Choose 433-SS stainless

  • 316 stainless steel
  • Rated to 5,000 PSI
  • Nitrile seals, 3/8 inch NPT
  • Fitted to the 112-3-100
  • Select Swivel Stainless 3/8 Inch above

Do not substitute one for the other. The brass 433 and the stainless 433-SS are separate parts and one will not stand in for the other. If you are not sure which reel you have, send us a photo before ordering and we will tell you which option to select.

Check your machine's pressure against the swivel, not just the reel. The brass 433 is rated to 3,000 PSI. The 100 Series reel itself is rated to 4,000, and plenty of professional pressure washers run above 3,000. A swivel is a pressurised rotating joint and it must never be the lowest rated part in your line. If your machine exceeds 3,000 PSI, the stainless 433-SS is the correct part, not the cheaper option.

If your old part says 1935

Coxreels renamed the brass swivel. What was supplied as 1935 is now 433. Same brass 3/8 inch NPT swivel, same nitrile seals. If your paperwork, your parts list or the swivel on the reel says 1935, the brass option on this page is the replacement.

Why the swivel is the part that fails

Everything else on a hose reel is static. The frame, the discs, the brake. The swivel is the only component that is pressurised and rotating at the same time, every time somebody pulls hose off or cranks it back on.

It also sits at the inlet, which is the lowest point, which is where water collects. In a detailing bay that water is rarely clean. It carries snow foam, wheel cleaner, iron remover and salt off customer cars.

Brass handles the pressure and the rotation without complaint. What wears it is the chemistry. The surface tarnishes, then pits, and a pitted sealing face goes through seals far faster than a smooth one. 316 is the marine grade stainless, and it holds a clean sealing surface in exactly the conditions that pit brass. That, plus the higher pressure rating, is what you are paying the difference for.

Whole swivel or just seals

Replace the whole swivel when

  • It still weeps after a fresh seal kit
  • The sealing surface is visibly pitted or scored
  • It has gone stiff or notchy to turn
  • The body is cracked or a thread is damaged
  • It has been over pressurised
  • You are upgrading brass to stainless on a black reel

A seal kit may be enough when

  • It is weeping but the body looks clean
  • It turns smoothly with no roughness
  • The leak started gradually, not suddenly
  • The swivel has never been run over pressure
  • No pitting on the sealing face

Pull the swivel, clean it and look at the sealing surface before you decide. If it is smooth, seals will fix it. If you can feel pitting with a fingernail, no seal is going to hold against that for long.

Fitting it

Isolate and depressurise Shut off the supply and pull the trigger to bleed the line before you touch the swivel.
No need to drop the reel The Coxreels swivel design allows replacement with the reel still on its mount.Which is why boxing the swivel in behind hard plumbing is a mistake at install.
Use the right sealant These are NPT tapered threads. Use thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for your pressure and keep it off the first thread so nothing ends up in the line.
Do not overtighten NPT seals on the taper, not on torque. Overtightening is how bodies crack.
Pressure test Bring the system up slowly and check for weeping before you put the reel back into service.
Check the rating Confirm your machine sits inside the rating of the swivel you fitted, 3,000 PSI brass or 5,000 PSI stainless.

Common questions

Which option do I select?
Go by the colour of your reel. Blue reel takes the brass 433. Black reel takes the stainless 433-SS. They are two separate parts and one will not substitute for the other. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your reel and we will tell you.
My old one is marked 1935. Is this the same part?
Yes. Coxreels renamed the brass swivel from 1935 to 433. Same brass 3/8 inch NPT swivel with nitrile seals. Select the brass option.
Can I fit the stainless one to a blue reel?
No. They are not interchangeable. The blue reel takes brass and the black reel takes stainless. Ordering the wrong one means a part you cannot use and a return, so check the reel colour first.
How do I tell brass from stainless at a glance?
Colour. Brass is yellow or gold and tarnishes to dull brown or green in a wet bay. Stainless is silver grey and stays that way. If the part is furred with limescale, clean a small area and look at the metal underneath.
Do they come with seals?
Yes, both options have nitrile seals fitted. If you only need seals rather than the whole swivel, we list the swivel seal kit separately.
Seal kit or new swivel?
Pull the swivel out and look at the sealing surface. If it is smooth and the swivel turns freely, a seal kit will fix a weep. If you can feel pitting or it has gone notchy to turn, the body is worn and new seals will not hold for long.
Why is the stainless one rated higher?
316 stainless is a stronger material than brass, so Coxreels rate it to 5,000 PSI against 3,000 PSI for the brass. That matters if your machine runs above 3,000 PSI, because the swivel should never be the lowest rated part in the line.
My machine is over 3,000 PSI. What then?
Then brass is not the right part for you. Tell us the machine you are running and we will confirm the correct reel and swivel combination rather than guessing.
Why does brass go green?
Brass tarnishes in wet, chemical conditions, which is exactly what a detailing bay is. It is cosmetic at first, but it can progress to pitting, and a pitted sealing face wears seals quickly. Rinsing the swivel down and letting the bay drain properly slows it considerably.
Do I have to take the reel off the wall?
No. The Coxreels swivel is designed to be serviced with the reel still mounted. Isolate the supply and bleed the pressure first.

Material, pressure rating, seal material, thread size and fluid path are the Coxreels published specifications for the 433 and 433-SS. Temperature range depends on the seal material fitted. The two swivels are not interchangeable. Confirm which reel you have before ordering, and confirm your machine's working pressure sits inside the rating of the swivel you select. Installation of pressurised fittings should be carried out by someone competent to do so.
