AIRnet DIY Installation Guide

Plan it. Cut it. Connect it. Install it.

AIRnet's PF series is push-to-fit, no soldering, threading or glue. Here's the DIY version of the official install steps, seven steps from measuring your pipe to checking the connection is locked in.

Before You Start

  • Confirm your pipe size, 20mm or 25mm
  • Plan your outlet locations
  • Measure your pipe runs
  • Count how many fittings you'll need
  • Count how many outlets you're installing
  • Allow for a ball valve at each outlet if you want individual isolation
  • Allow for mounting clips along the run
  • Confirm your compressor connection thread
  • Confirm your hose reel connection thread
  • Have the correct installation tools ready

What you'll need

  • Pipe/tube cutter (rated to ~28-32mm covers both 20mm and 25mm)
  • Deburring tool or file
  • Marker or pipe marker tool
  • Tape measure
  • AIRnet lubricant (optional, makes insertion easier)

Measure

Measure the length you need, then add the insertion depth for the fitting on each end. AIRnet publishes exact insertion depths per size, roughly 39mm on 20mm pipe and 44mm on 25mm pipe per fitting side.

Cut

Cut the pipe square using a pipe/tube cutter, not a hacksaw. A tube cutter gives a clean, square cut in one motion and won't leave the ragged edge a hacksaw does. For 20mm and 25mm aluminium pipe, a tube cutter rated to around 28-32mm covers both sizes, Bunnings stocks a few options in this range. An angled cut won't seal properly, so square is what matters most here.

Deburr and chamfer

Remove the sharp inner and outer edge left by cutting, and check the cut end is square, within about 10 degrees off flat, recut if it's noticeably angled. A light chamfer on the outside edge helps the pipe slide into the fitting's seal without damaging it.

Mark the insertion depth

Mark a line on the pipe at the insertion depth for your fitting size. This line tells you the pipe is fully seated once it disappears into the fitting.

Insert the pipe

A dab of AIRnet lubricant on the pipe end makes this easier, though it's optional. Push the pipe straight into the fitting until your marked line disappears. No twisting needed.

Check the connection

Check your marked line is flush with the fitting, and look for the white torque indicator on PF series fittings, fully visible means a correct, sealed connection.

Secure the pipe

Fit a clip within 50cm of every side of every fitting, and no more than 2.5m between clips on longer straight runs. This keeps the pipe rigid and stops movement putting strain on the fittings.


Avoid These Common AIRnet Mistakes

Wrong pipe size. Undersizing for your compressor's output causes pressure drop, use the configurator to check before ordering.

Incorrect cutting. An angled cut won't seal properly against the fitting's internal seal.

Not deburring. Sharp edges left from cutting can damage the fitting's seal on insertion.

Incorrect insertion depth. Pipe not pushed fully home won't seat the seal correctly, always mark and check your insertion line.

Forgetting joiners. Every pipe-to-pipe join needs its own equal socket, easy to under-order.

Forgetting outlet valves. Without a ball valve at each outlet, you can't isolate one bay without shutting down the whole system.

Insufficient pipe supports. AIRnet's manual requires a clip within 50cm of every fitting and no more than 2.5m between clips on straight runs.

Incorrect compressor connection. Confirm your whip hose thread size before ordering the adaptor union socket, 25mm connections are 1" thread and may need a reducing bush.

Mixing incompatible components. AIRnet's installation guide specifies not combining other brand fittings or pipe with AIRnet aluminium components.

Before pressurising: pressurise gradually rather than all at once, and check every joint for leaks before you rely on the system. If anything doesn't look or feel right, depressurise and recheck the connection before continuing.
