Most detailers end up with two machines: a full size dual action for panels and a mini for the awkward bits.
The pad does more of the work than most people realise. Same compound on three different pads gives three different results.

Soft Foam Interface Pad: sits between backing plate and pad on curved panels so the pad follows the body shape. Not for heavy cutting on flat panels, it softens the pressure you're trying to apply.

The M8S V2. Short throw makes it forgiving and easy to control while you learn.
Throw length and power. M8S is shorter and safer for tight areas; M15 PRO corrects a whole car faster.
Brushed motors have carbon brushes that wear and need replacing; brushless has none, plus more power, less noise and vibration. Daily users benefit most.
How far the pad travels per rotation. Short throw is gentler and better in tight areas; long throw covers flat panels faster.
Not as your first machine. A rotary has no stalling safety, so it burns clear coat fast in inexperienced hands. Learn on a dual action first.
The M1300 PRO is the newer, bigger option: 1300W with 6-speed control and 3 to 7 inch backing plate compatibility, so it covers everything from spot repairs to full panels. The M1000 is the standard 5 inch rotary at a lower price. Both are for experienced hands only.
M21 PRO's 21mm throw and 6 inch pad carry more product and cover ground faster, which suits flatter panels like utes, vans and boats. Most cars have too much curve for that bigger pad to sit flush, so the M15 PRO is the better all rounder for cars.
Yes, standard hook and loop backing works on any dual action or rotary with a matching plate size.
Blue cuts, yellow polishes, red finishes: heavier defects through to final gloss and sealant application.
At least two or three of each grade for a full car, since a loaded pad stops cutting properly.
The spots a full size machine can't reach: pillars, mirrors, bumper corners, door handles. A companion tool, not a replacement.
Yes, if you're machine polishing. Normal lighting hides swirls that only show up in the sun.
