The NexPTG PRO Carbon with Calibration Certificate is NexDiag's flagship paint coating thickness gauge, built for detailers, appraisers, insurers and bodyshops who need measurements that hold up as evidence, not just a working gauge. It shares every feature of the standard PRO Carbon, an extended 0–3000 micron range, 8000-reading memory, VIN scanner, voice control and smartwatch pairing, and adds one thing the rest of the range doesn't have: an official calibration certificate issued by an external, accredited certification company, confirming this specific unit meets NexDiag's stated accuracy parameters.
0–2500µm · 4000 readings · core features
0–3000µm · 8000 readings · VIN reader, voice control
Same as PRO Carbon, plus accredited calibration certificate
Issued by an external, accredited certification company for this specific unit, giving you documented, defensible accuracy for formal reports and appraisals.
Covers thin factory paint through to thick filler or multi-layer refinish work, with 1 micron resolution.
Scan a VIN with your phone's camera to auto-populate vehicle data, and operate the whole workflow hands-free by voice.
The only NexPTG model that connects to a Wear OS or WatchOS smartwatch, so you can take readings without pulling out your phone.

I'm Nick, founder of Detailing Shed. Over the years I've used paint thickness gauges on a lot of vehicles, and it's changed how I approach every correction job.
I've picked up resprayed panels that looked completely normal to the eye. No colour mismatch, no overspray, nothing you'd catch just walking around the car. The gauge told a different story. I've also come across vehicles with real variation in paint thickness from panel to panel, the kind of pattern that usually points to repair work at some point, even when there's no paperwork or visible sign of it.
A few times I've had a reading come back a lot lower than expected on a panel. That's not a good moment. It means there isn't enough paint or clear coat left to safely do the level of correction the customer originally asked for. Without the gauge, I wouldn't have known that until it was too late, and cutting through clear coat isn't something you can undo.
Having that number in front of me before I pick up a machine means I'm making an informed call, not a guess. It takes the risk off the customer's paint, and off my reputation. That's really what a paint thickness gauge does: it removes the guesswork. You know exactly what you're working with before you touch the paint, not after.
You can't safely remove paint if you don't know how much of it you've actually got. Finding a repair, filler, a respray, or paint that's thinner than it should be before you start polishing can save real time, real money, and in some cases stop you doing damage to a car's paint that can't be undone.
If you're serious about paint correction, a paint thickness gauge should be considered essential equipment, not an optional accessory.

It measures the exact depth of paint, primer and clear coat on a vehicle's panels, in microns. Detailers use it to check for previous respray or filler work before quoting a correction, track how much clear coat is being removed during machine polishing, and establish a safe baseline before applying paint protection film or a ceramic coating.
Identical hardware and specifications. This version simply includes an official calibration certificate from an external, accredited certification company, confirming the unit meets NexDiag's stated accuracy parameters. It matters for anyone producing paint reports for insurers, appraisers or used-car buyers who need certified, defensible measurements, not just a working gauge.
Yes. The NexPTG PRO Carbon automatically recognises and measures steel, galvanised steel and aluminium substrates, covering the mixed-material panels found on most modern vehicles.
It measures from 0 to 3000 µm (0 to 118.11 mils) with a resolution of 1 µm, taking up to 10 measurements per second through a spherical probe rated for both flat and curved panels.
The gauge itself has no display; all readings are sent via Bluetooth 4.0 LE to the free NexPTG app on iOS (11+, iPhone 6s or later) or Android (5.0+ with Bluetooth Low Energy), where measurements, reports and vehicle data are recorded. It also pairs with a Wear OS or WatchOS smartwatch for hands-free measuring.
Yes. Factory paint typically reads within a consistent, narrow range, so a noticeably thicker or inconsistent reading across a panel usually indicates filler, respray or replacement work.
It's not required for routine correction and coating work, but it's worth it for anyone producing formal condition reports, working with insurers or appraisers, or wanting documented proof of accuracy behind every quote.
