Most of the Puma 240V range tops out at 800 kPa, which suits detailing work, but if any equipment specifies 145 psi this is the model that meets it on single phase.

FAD explained, and why it matters

Compressor air output is quoted two different ways, and the difference catches a lot of buyers out.

Pump displacement is the volume the pump sweeps on every rotation. It is a theoretical figure and it is always the larger of the two, which is why it often appears first in marketing.

Free Air Delivery (FAD) is the air that actually reaches your tool once losses through the valves, rings and heat are accounted for. This is the number that determines whether your equipment will run properly.

We list FAD as the headline figure on every Puma page. If you are comparing this against another compressor and that one only quotes displacement, you are not comparing like with like. Always ask for the FAD figure.

Installation and ordering

  • Requires a 15 amp outlet. This uses a physically larger plug than a standard 10 amp point.
  • If you do not have 15 amp available, a licensed electrician will need to install the circuit.
  • Position on a level surface with clear airflow around the pump and motor.
  • Allow access underneath for the tank drain valve. Drain accumulated condensate regularly; daily draining is recommended where the compressor is used frequently.
  • A 5 micron filter regulator is fitted as standard, so no basic filter purchase is needed. For paint, coating or PPF work, add a suitable coalescing filter downstream to reduce oil aerosol.

Choosing the right Puma

Choose the P22-100L instead if your tools run at 800 kPa or below. The P22-100L delivers 350 L/min against this model's 320, for similar money. Pressure is the only reason to pick the P18.
Step down if you are limited to a 10 amp outlet. The P14-60L also runs at 1,000 kPa, though with much lower flow at 210 L/min.
Step up to three-phase if several people need air at once. The P30 415V delivers 520 L/min.

Maintenance

Glenco publish a full maintenance schedule for oil-lubricated compressors. Keeping to it is what determines how many years you get out of the pump.

Free air delivery is the figure to size your tools against. Higher pressure and higher flow are a trade-off at each amp rating, so pick based on what your tools actually require.

How much air does it deliver?

320 L/min free air delivery (11.3 cfm) at up to 1,000 kPa (145 psi). Pump displacement is 400 L/min, but FAD is the figure that matters when sizing tools.

What does FAD mean?

Free Air Delivery, the air that actually reaches your tool once internal losses are accounted for. Pump displacement is theoretical and always reads higher. Compare FAD against FAD.

Should I buy this or the P22-100L?

It comes down to pressure. The P22-100L delivers more air, 350 L/min against 320, but tops out at 800 kPa (115 psi). This model reaches 1,000 kPa (145 psi). If any of your equipment specifies 145 psi, choose the P18. If everything runs at 800 kPa or below, the P22 is the better buy.

What tools can it run?

Blow guns, detailing tools, interior cleaning guns and pneumatic polishers comfortably. Sanders are workable for one operator. It also suits nailers and other tools needing the full 145 psi.

How many tools can operate simultaneously?

That depends on the specific tools and how continuously they run, so we do not publish a fixed number. Send us your equipment list and we will size it properly.

What power supply is required?

Glenco Air & Power provide a 12 month warranty against defects in material and workmanship from the date of original sale. Electric motors carry whatever warranty the motor manufacturer provides. Consumables including filters, lubricants and V-belts are not covered, nor is normal wear and tear. Keep your tax invoice as proof of purchase.
