The Complete Guide to P&S: What Every Product Is For

Every P&S Detail Product we sell, what to use it for, and just as importantly, what not to use it for. No fluff, no guessing. Bookmark it, share it, stick it on the shed wall.

What Is P&S?

P&S Detail Products has been manufacturing detailing chemicals in the United States for around 50 years, built on chemistry rather than marketing. The range is used by professional detailers worldwide, from mobile operators to high-end studios, and it works just as well for an enthusiast doing a Saturday morning wash in the driveway. A lot of the value comes from concentration, several of the wheel and wash products are sold as concentrates you dilute yourself, so a single bottle stretches a long way. The catalogue covers every stage of a detail: wheels, wash, decontamination, polishing, protection, interior and glass, which is exactly why this guide exists, to help you find the right bottle without wading through the whole range.

The five that cover 90% of a maintenance detail Brake Buster for wheels, Pearl for the wash, Bead Maker for gloss and protection, Xpress for the interior, and Rags To Riches for your towels. Everything below is for going deeper.

Why Choose P&S?

Professional-grade chemistry, developed for shops running dozens of cars a week
Excellent value, especially on the concentrate products
Easy to use, spray-and-wipe simplicity on most of the range
Highly concentrated on the wash and wheel side, one bottle goes a long way
Trusted worldwide by professional detailers, not just a DIY brand
Consistent results, batch to batch, wash to wash
Wide product range, wheels through to glass, one brand covers most jobs
Suitable for beginners, the five essentials above are close to foolproof

Which Product For Which Job

Match the job to the bottle.

No hose available Absolute Rinseless Wash
Iron and fallout removal Iron Buster
Gloss and protection in minutes Bead Maker

Wheels and Tyres

Start every wash here.

Brake Buster Non Acid Foaming Wheel Cleaner

Use it for: brake dust, road grime and traffic film on wheels and tyres. Non-acid, so it's safe for regular maintenance washes and coated wheels.

Not for: hot wheels straight after a drive, and never let it dry on the wheel. Cool panel, work it, rinse it off.

Professional TipThrough an IK-style foam sprayer, most detailers run Brake Buster considerably weaker than by hand, up around 1:7. By hand trigger or on heavier buildup, closer to neat or 1:3 is common. See the full Dilution Guide.

Undressed Tire Prep

Use it for: stripping old dressing and browning off tyres so fresh dressing bonds and lasts.

Not for: painted surfaces. It's a stripper, keep it on the rubber.

Shine All Performance Dressing

Use it for: tyres and interior surfaces, diluted to control the finish from satin through to shine.

Not for: steering wheels, pedals or anywhere grip matters. Dressings and grip don't mix.

Dynamic Dressing (Double Black)

Use it for: tyres, exterior trim and engine bays. The professional pick from the Double Black line developed with Renny Doyle.

Not for: brake components or glass. Keep overspray off both.

Washing

Foam it, wash it, or skip the hose.

Frostbite Surface Cleanse Snow Foam

Use it for: the pre-wash. Thick foam through a foam cannon that loosens dirt before anything touches the paint.

Not for: replacing the contact wash. Foam softens the dirt, the mitt still does the cleaning.

Pearl Auto Shampoo High Foaming

Use it for: the bucket wash. Concentrated, high foam, great lubrication, streak-free rinse, safe on coatings, waxes and sealants.

Not for: stripping old wax or prepping for a coating. It's a maintenance wash, that's the point of it.

Did You Know?Because Pearl is such a strong concentrate, foam cannon dilutions commonly run in the 1:200 to 1:500 range, and bucket washes even weaker again. One bottle genuinely lasts a long time compared to a ready-to-use shampoo.

Inspiration Radiance Coating Maintenance Wash

Use it for: washing ceramic coated cars without masking or muting the coating's behaviour.

Not for: decontamination. If your coating has stopped beading, it needs a decon, not just a wash. Our coating beading guide covers it.

Absolute Rinseless Wash

Use it for: washing with a bucket and towels only. Apartments, water restrictions, quick mid-week cleans.

Not for: heavily soiled or muddy vehicles. Rinseless needs light to moderate dirt, anything caked-on gets a proper pre-rinse and wash first.

Decontamination and Prep

Before polishing or coating.

Iron Buster Wheel & Paint Decon Remover

Use it for: dissolving embedded iron from brake dust and fallout on paint and wheels. The purple reaction shows it working.

Not for: interiors, and don't let it dry on the panel or use it in direct sun. Dwell, then rinse thoroughly.

Common MistakeReaching for Brake Buster when the problem is actually iron, not general grime. If wheels stay dull and speckled after a normal wash, that's Iron Buster's job. See the Brake Buster vs Iron Buster table below.

Paint Coating Surface Prep

Use it for: the panel wipe before coatings and sealants, removing polishing oils so protection bonds to bare paint.

Not for: wiping over a coating you want to keep. It's designed to leave paint chemically bare.

All Purpose Cleaner

Use it for: door jambs, engine bays, plastics and general grime, diluted to suit the surface.

Not for: using neat on delicate surfaces or regularly on protected paint. Strong dilutions are for strong messes.

Polishing

Correction and refinement.

Rehab Correction Creme

Use it for: machine correction, cutting swirls and defects before refining.

Not for: hand application or a quick once-over. Correction is a machine job on decontaminated paint.

Therapy Final Polish

Use it for: the finishing step after correction, refining to maximum gloss before protection.

Not for: removing deep defects. That's Rehab's job, Therapy finishes.

Clarity Creme Glass Polish

Use it for: polishing water spot etching, wiper haze and stubborn film off exterior glass.

Not for: the inside face of tinted windows. Abrasives and tint film don't mix.

Metal Brite Liquid Metal Polish

Use it for: bare polished metals, exhaust tips and brightwork.

Not for: clear-coated or painted wheels. Test an inconspicuous spot if you're not sure what finish you have.

Protection and Gloss

The famous ones.

Bead Maker Paint Protectant

Use it for: gloss, slickness and water behaviour in minutes, on coated or uncoated paint. Doubles as a drying aid.

Not for: replacing a ceramic coating, and not on a dirty car. It's protection and shine over clean paint, not a cleaner.

Best PracticeBead Maker is a maintenance topper, not a coating substitute. Real-world reports put it at a few weeks of durability, which is exactly why it's a "use it every wash or two" product rather than a "once a year" one.

Dream Maker Show Car Gloss Amplifier

Use it for: maximum gloss depth before a show, a photoshoot or a sale.

Not for: long-term protection. It's the suit, not the sunscreen.

Paint Gloss Showroom Spray N Shine

Use it for: dust and fingerprints between washes, keeping the showroom look going.

Not for: visibly dirty panels. Quick detailing over grit is how swirls happen.

Natural Finish Dressing

Use it for: restoring trim and surfaces to a factory-natural look rather than gloss.

Not for: anywhere you grip. Same rule as every dressing.

Shape Up Interior & Exterior Dressing

Use it for: interior and exterior plastics, vinyl and trim with one bottle.

Not for: steering wheels, pedals or seat bolsters you slide across.

Interior

From dashboards to deep carpet cleans.

Xpress Interior Cleaner

Use it for: dashboards, plastics, leather, vinyl, steering wheels, screens and trim. One bottle, no residue.

Not for: deep carpet stains. That's what the three-step system below exists for.

Xpress Interior Wipes

Use it for: spills and touch-ups on the go. Keep a tub in the glovebox.

Not for: a full interior detail. Wipes are the top-up, not the clean.

Xpress Sidekick Scrub Pads

Use it for: agitating Xpress into textured plastics and grained leather.

Not for: piano black trim or screens. Soft microfibre only on gloss surfaces.

Swift Clean & Shine

Use it for: the interior quick detail, light soiling cleaned and finished in one step.

Not for: heavy grime. Swift freshens, Xpress cleans.

Terminator Enzyme Spot & Stain Remover (Step 1)

Use it for: pre-treating spots and stains in carpet and fabric with enzymes before the main clean.

Not for: leather. It's a fabric and carpet product.

Carpet Bomber Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner (Step 2)

Use it for: the main carpet and upholstery clean, worked with a brush or extractor. The bomb-style nozzle pushes foam deep into the fibre, not just across the surface.

Not for: skipping the vacuum, or leather. Always vacuum thoroughly first, and use Xpress for leather, Carpet Bomber can damage leather finishes and conditioners.

Finisher Peroxide Treatment (Step 3)

Use it for: the final hit on stubborn staining after Terminator and Carpet Bomber. The Carpet Cleaning Bundle packages all three.

Not for: use as a standalone cleaner. It's step three of three for a reason.

Leather Treatment

Use it for: conditioning and protecting leather after cleaning, keeping seats supple, not shiny.

Not for: suede, alcantara or fabric. Coated leather only.

Defender SiO2 Protectant

Use it for: SiO2 protection on interior dash and trim, making future cleans easier.

Not for: pedals, steering wheels or anywhere added slickness is a safety issue.

Glass

See clearly.

True Vue Glass Cleaner

Use it for: streak-free interior and exterior glass, safe on tint.

Not for: water spot etching. Cleaner cleans, etching needs Clarity Creme.

Reflect Glass Finisher

Use it for: the final clarity step on glass after cleaning or polishing.

Not for: doing the cleaning itself. Finisher finishes.

Towel Care, Fragrance and Accessories

The supporting cast.

Rags To Riches Microfibre Detergent

Use it for: washing microfibre properly, restoring absorbency and extending towel life. Cold wash, full routine in our microfibre washing guide.

Not for: pairing with fabric softener, ever. Softener kills towels, Rags To Riches revives them.

Fragrances: Mango Fresh, Coconut Lime, Eucalyptus

Use it for: in-car fragrance, including the Bead Maker and Absolute scents. Concentrated, so a little goes a long way.

Not for: spraying neat onto fabrics or headlining. Dilute and go easy.

Spray Bottle, Bucket Labels and Tap Dispenser

Use it for: chemical-resistant dilution bottles, wash/rinse/wheels bucket labels, and a tap for 19L drums. The stuff that keeps a setup organised.

Comparison Tables

The products people mix up most.

Brake Buster vs Iron Buster

Brake Buster Iron Buster
Purpose General wheel & tyre cleaner Dissolves embedded iron fallout
Safe on wheels Yes, non-acid Yes, non-acid
Removes iron specifically Not formulated for it Yes, colour-change reaction
Removes brake dust / grime Yes, general purpose Yes, iron-based grime specifically
Needs agitation Usually, brush or mitt Mostly dwell and rinse, less scrubbing
Frequency Every wash Periodically, when wheels stay dull after a normal wash

Plenty of detailers use both together: Brake Buster for the regular clean, Iron Buster when the purple bleed shows there's embedded contamination a standard wash won't shift.

Bead Maker vs Defender

Bead Maker Defender
Where it's stocked here Protection & Gloss, exterior paint Interior, dash & trim
Chemistry Paint protectant, spray and wipe SiO2 protectant, spray and wipe
Typical durability Weeks, a maintenance-every-wash product Longer than Bead Maker in most reports, still a topper not a coating
Ease of use Very easy, forgiving application Easy, self-levelling, less buffing needed
Best application Exterior paint, glass, trim, wheels Interior dash and trim on this site

Worth knowing: across the wider detailing world, Defender is often marketed as a direct exterior alternative to Bead Maker with better durability. On Detailing Shed's own range, Defender is currently positioned as the interior dash and trim product, that's the recommendation to follow if you're buying from here.

Xpress vs Carpet Bomber

Xpress Carpet Bomber
Interior plastics Yes No
Fabric Light cleaning Yes, deep clean
Carpet Not for stains Yes, its main job
Leather Yes No, can damage finishes and conditioners
Dilution Ready to use Full strength for stains, can be diluted for light maintenance

Always follow the current label on your bottle for the latest manufacturer recommendations, formulas and guidance can change.

Product Compatibility

Can Brake Buster be used before Bead Maker?

Yes. Brake Buster is a wheel and tyre cleaner, Bead Maker is a paint protectant, they're used at completely different stages and don't interact.

Can Defender go over ceramic coatings?

Yes, SiO2 toppers like Defender are generally safe as a maintenance layer over an existing ceramic coating. Test an inconspicuous area first if you're unsure how your specific coating will respond.

Can Xpress be used on leather?

Yes, Xpress is formulated to be safe on leather, vinyl, plastics and trim, which is what makes it the all-rounder of the interior range.

Can Carpet Bomber be used with extractor machines?

Yes, Carpet Bomber works with a brush for hand agitation or through an extractor for a deeper clean, it doesn't require professional equipment but can be used with it.

Can Dream Maker be layered?

It's designed as a finishing gloss step rather than a base layer, most detailers apply it as the final touch before an event rather than building it up in multiple coats.

Ceramic Coating Safe Products

Safe To Use

Inspiration Radiance (coating-specific wash), Pearl (general maintenance wash), Brake Buster (non-acid, coating-safe wheel clean)

Improves Coating Performance

Bead Maker as a topper, refreshes gloss and beading between full coating maintenance

Use Sparingly

Anything with cutting or correction ability, Rehab and Therapy, isn't for a coated car unless you're deliberately correcting underneath the coating

Maintenance routine for a coated car: Inspiration Radiance or Pearl for the regular wash, Brake Buster for wheels, Bead Maker every few washes to keep beading sharp. If beading has genuinely stopped rather than just softened, that's a decontamination job, see our coating beading guide.

Common Mistakes

Using too much product

More isn't more with concentrates. Overdosing wastes product and can leave residue that's harder to remove than the dirt was.

Incorrect dilution

Too strong wastes money, too weak wastes time. See the Dilution Guide above for realistic starting ranges.

Applying protection to dirty paint

Bead Maker and similar products are protection, not cleaners. They lock in whatever's already on the surface.

Using carpet cleaners on leather

Carpet Bomber can damage leather finishes and conditioners. Use Xpress or a dedicated leather product instead.

Using wheel cleaner on hot wheels

Heat accelerates evaporation and can cause staining or spotting. Let wheels cool before Brake Buster or Iron Buster goes on.

Allowing chemicals to dry

Iron Buster especially shouldn't be left to dry on the panel. Dwell within the recommended window, then rinse thoroughly.

Beginner Buying Guide

If you only buy five products, make it these:

Pearl Auto Shampoo

Every detail starts with a wash, and Pearl is safe on coatings, waxes and sealants, so it never fights whatever protection you already have.

Brake Buster

Wheels get the dirtiest part of the car dirtiest, fastest. Non-acid means it's safe to reach for every single wash.

Xpress Interior Cleaner

One bottle covers dash, trim, leather and plastics, exactly what a beginner needs before building out a specialised interior kit.

Bead Maker

Instant gloss and water behaviour with almost no learning curve, spray it on, wipe it off.

Shine All Tyre Dressing

The finishing touch that makes a wash look like a full detail, without needing correction skills or machine polishing.

Professional Recommendations

The Bundles

Starting from zero? Bundles beat buying a bottle at a time. The Trio Bundle packages Bead Maker, Brake Buster and Xpress, the three products the brand is famous for. The Favourites Bundle swaps Xpress for Pearl if washing is your priority. The Carpet Cleaning Bundle covers the full three-step interior system, the Wheel and Tyre Cleaning Kit adds brushes to Brake Buster, and the Essentials Bundle rounds out the core lineup in one hit.

Where is P&S made?

P&S Detail Products is manufactured in the United States.

Is Brake Buster acid free?

Yes, Brake Buster is a non-acid formula, which is why it's safe for regular use on painted, powder-coated and most wheel finishes.

Can Brake Buster be diluted?

Yes, though opinions vary on the exact ratio. Commonly used ranges run from neat for heavy buildup down to around 1:7 through a foam sprayer. See the Dilution Guide above.

Is Bead Maker ceramic coating safe?

Yes, Bead Maker is commonly used as a maintenance topper over an existing ceramic coating.

How long does Defender last?

Real-world reports vary, generally longer than Bead Maker, with some users reporting several weeks to a few months depending on wash frequency and exposure. It's a topper, not a multi-year coating.

Can Dream Maker be used after every wash?

It's built as an occasional maximum-gloss step for shows or events rather than a weekly product, Bead Maker is the better fit for regular use.

Which shampoo is pH neutral?

Pearl Auto Shampoo is formulated to be safe on coatings, waxes and sealants without stripping protection.

Can Xpress be used on navigation screens?

Yes, Xpress is safe on screens as part of its all-surface interior use, along with dash, plastics, leather and trim.

Can Carpet Bomber be used in extraction machines?

Yes, it works either by hand with a brush or through an extractor for a deeper clean.

Which products are ready to use?

Bead Maker and Xpress Interior Cleaner are both spray-and-wipe, ready to use straight from the bottle.

Which products are concentrates?

Pearl, Brake Buster, Absolute Rinseless Wash and All Purpose Cleaner are all sold as concentrates you dilute to suit the job.

Can P&S products be used in foam cannons?

Yes, Brake Buster and Pearl are both commonly run through a foam cannon, at much weaker dilutions than a hand spray or bucket application.

What products should beginners buy?

Brake Buster, Pearl, Bead Maker, Xpress and Shine All Tyre Dressing cover the vast majority of a regular detail. See the full Beginner Buying Guide above.

Which products work best together?

Brake Buster and Iron Buster on wheels, Terminator, Carpet Bomber and Finisher as the three-step interior system, and Paint Coating Surface Prep before any wax, sealant or ceramic coating.

What's the difference between Brake Buster and Iron Buster?

Brake Buster is a general non-acid wheel and tyre cleaner used every wash. Iron Buster is a dedicated iron decontaminant with a colour-change reaction, used periodically when wheels stay dull after a normal wash. See the full comparison table above.

Is Carpet Bomber safe on leather?

No, Carpet Bomber is formulated for fabric and carpet and can damage leather finishes and conditioners. Use Xpress or a dedicated leather cleaner instead.

Do I need Frostbite Snow Foam if I already have Pearl?

They do different jobs. Frostbite is a pre-wash foam that loosens dirt before contact, Pearl is the bucket wash itself. Frostbite doesn't replace the contact wash, it just makes it safer.

What's the best P&S product for a first-time ceramic coating owner?

Inspiration Radiance for the regular wash, Brake Buster for wheels, and Bead Maker every few washes to keep beading and gloss looking sharp between full maintenance.

Can I mix P&S products with other brands?

Generally yes for most wash and wheel products, but avoid layering unrelated protection products (waxes, sealants, coatings) from different brands without checking compatibility first, some chemistries don't bond well over others.

How do I know if I need Iron Buster or just a regular wash?

If wheels look dull, speckled or gritty after a normal wash with Brake Buster, that's usually embedded iron. Iron Buster will show a purple bleeding reaction on contact, confirming it's working.

Product recommendations on this page are based on manufacturer guidance and practical detailing experience, not clinical testing. Always test products on an inconspicuous area before full application, and follow the latest label instructions for dilution, dwell time and compatibility, as formulations and recommendations may change.
